On September 14th our little Mimi girl turned ONE! It seriously is so crazy to me that she has been part of our lives for a year now. We had such a great time celebrating her birthday.
We started the morning off by loading her crib with balloons. She was so happy about it and her sister loved it too!
For her party I wanted to do a "Sweet Shoppe" theme. I had a lot of fun making her banner and tissue paper pom poms.
I had the hardest time with her cake and cupcakes. They just wouldn't turn out. I wanted to make a mini cake for her but my first batch poured over the sides of the cake pans and ended up all over my oven. Disaster! With the leftover cake mix I made some mini cupcakes. The mini cupcakes unded up looking burnt and were a weird shape. Then I made cupcakes and more mini cupcakes with the other cake mix I had that was a different brand. They turned out so incredibly different and looked awesome! So I had Shawn run to the store to get another cake mix so I could try the main cake again. The mini cakes cooked so much better the second time around but then stuck to the pan and kind of fell apart when I pulled them out. I started bawling. It just wasn't working out at all! I put them in the freezer in the hopes that once they were frozen they would frost better and stay together. So the next morning I pulled the cake out and assembled it and frosted it. I couldn't believe that it actually looked really good with all the trouble we had with it.
So I thought we were out of trouble with the darn cake but after 30 minutes, I noticed that it was collapsing and the bottom was bulging. So again we threw it back in the freezer hoping that it would stop the collapse. It seemed to work well enough and no one noticed but man, it was so stressful for me. I just wanted her birthday to be perfect. And yes, I realize that she's one and couldn't care less.
My cute girl in her Sweet Shoppe dress.
Uncle Bry bribing her with a cupcake. She loved it.
She did pretty good with opening presents. It took her a few minutes to get it but then she really enjoyed ripping the paper. Although after about 5 minutes of it, she was SO done.
Raemee's leaning, bulging cake.
Mimi was so hesitant about the cake. Everyone was waiting and watching her and she barely even touched it.
We finally helped her out a little so she could get more of a taste and then she started digging her fists in.
There is no better time to play peek-a-boo than when you have cake/frosting hands! It was so fun watching her.
Happy birthday Mimi girl! We all love you so much and can't imagine our lives without you in it. You bring so much spunk and personality to our family! I hope this next year is even better than your first! Love you to the moon and back!
