Halloween

This is the first Halloween in our new home. We haven't had trick or treaters in five years so I was thrilled to find out the kids around here trick or treat. I wanted to do something clever and cute for my girls and wanted to make their costumes. I saw a picture of a little girl as Red Riding Hood and loved it.  I wanted Addie as Red and Mimi as the Big Bad Wolf. So I put my creative thinking cap on (and as you know, I'm terrible at being crafty and creative) and came up with this idea.

I made little fabric tutus using several tutorials online and then my mom and I made a couple patterns and came up with the cape and the ears. Then they just wore white shirts and tights. I was so happy with how it turned out. I had a few moments of being super frustrated and you definitely don't want to look too close because I'm not an experienced seamstress but they turned out better than I imagined!

Love these two girls! They loved their costumes and Addie would run around the house with her cape on!
We went to a Halloween party and this was my attempt to be the grandmother. I'm going to look awesome when I get older.

Shawn had a party at work and we found these killer Superman pajamas that he wore. Check out that butt. I was laughing so hard!
We invited family over to decorate cookies and to carve pumpkins. Addie loved it last year but wanted nothing to do with the pumpkins this year.
Mimi on the other hand was enthralled. And she would eat pieces of the pumpkin that got too close to her. Made me ill to watch but didn't bother her.

We made Monster Cookies. They turned out awesome and Addie went crazy with the sprinkles.

The best part of our Halloween was taking the girls trick or treating. Addie had a blast. She would go up to the doors and knock quietly and then when they would answer she would say, "Trick or Treating!" We went to one home where a very tall man answered and she froze. We prompted her. "What do you say?" She replied quietly, "Please." It was awesome.

It was such a perfect day too. Not too cold. We didn't even need to put jackets on the girls. After going around our neighborhood, we hurried back to our house to pass out candy to the kids. There was something magical about looking out our door and seeing our street packed with families. I know it sounds stupid but I teared up a little. I have missed that magic the past 5 years and seeing so many friends and watching Addie get so excited about answering the door was just amazing. I am so grateful for the chance we have to live in a home and an area where there are so many kids and young families. I'm grateful to be able to raise my kids here.
This was the best Halloween we've had since we've been married and I'm so excited for next year when Rae will be able to understand and enjoy it more. I love this "Super" family of mine!!
